Types of Vehicle Repair Facilities

Because ICBC is probably the number one provider of business for vehicle repair facilities across British Columbia, they have quite a large influence in ensuring not only reasonable rates but also excellent service.

ICBC has a program called “c.a.r. shop”.  Not all repair facilities have met the criteria to call themselves a “c.a.r. shop”, but most have. Just because a repair facility has the distinction of being a “c.a.r. shop” does not mean they are an excellent facility. However, chances are that if the facility has met the criteria of a “c.a.r. shop” you are going to get better service then if the facility has not.

There are two types of “c.a.r. shops”. One is called the “c.a.r. shop VALET” and the other type is a”c.a.r. shop A”.

A ”c.a.r. shop VALET” is required to provide:

Guaranteed repairs - Repairs to your vehicle are guaranteed for as long as you own your vehicle.
Alternate transportation - “ICBC VALET c.a.r. shops” can help you with transportation while your vehicle is being repaired.
Vehicle pick-up & drop-off - At your request, “VALET c.a.r. shops” will collect your vehicle from your home or workplace (within 30 km of the shop) and return it to you when the repairs are done. All of this is at no extra charge.
Convenience of on-site damage estimates - If your claim qualifies, you can go directly to a “c.a.r. shop VALET” facility for a vehicle damage estimate, and get the repairs done at the same convenient location. You don’t need to go to an ICBC Claim Centre first.
Standard of Service - All “c.a.r. shop VALET” facilities must meet standards set by ICBC for workmanship, customer service and facilities.

 “c.a.r. shop A” provides:

Guaranteed repairs - Repairs to your vehicle are guaranteed for as long as you own your vehicle.
Standard of service - All “c.a.r. shop” facilities must meet standards set by ICBC for workmanship, customer service and facilities.
